Language loss is a common consequence of occupation, displacement, and flight. Shwan Dler Qaradaki's exhibition, "Halo of Shame," explores how the ongoing political oppression of Kurdish—Shwan's mother tongue—has influenced his artistic work and the visual language available to a Kurdish artist. Through immersion in both Western classical art and Islamic miniature art, Shwan has developed a visual world that exists between East and West, past and present, object and subject. In this way, he seeks to create a decolonial visual language that can encompass the complex layers of identities and experiences.
Art offers an alternative form of language where verbal communication falls short. It represents an opportunity to express anger and grief over the loss of language and cultural identity. "Halo of Shame" is thus not only a reflection on loss but also an attempt to reclaim dignity and voice. The project aims to break down the boundaries between language and image, text and drawing, thereby seeking a form of restoration of the Kurdish language and a deeper understanding of Kurdish identity and cultural heritage.
"Halo of Shame" consists of two parts. The first part will be exhibited at Kunstnerforbundet from April 3 to May 18, 2025, featuring 33 large, drawn watercolors (270 x 113 cm) that represent the letters of the Kurdish alphabet. Part two will take place in the auditorium at the Oslo National Academy of the Arts, where four short films will be shown. In conjunction with the two exhibitions, eight podcasts will also be launched, featuring Shwan Dler Qaradaki in conversation with various international experts on language, history, politics, and art.

لای شوان هونەر فۆرمێکی تری زمان دابین دەکات کە دووره له زمانه زارەکییه بهكارهاتوو و بەرجەستەكه و تا ببێته نوێنەرێک بۆ دەربڕینی توڕەیی و خەم و پەژارە، ئهمهش بەهۆی لەدەستدانی زمان و شوناسی کولتووریەوە. بەم پێیە “ئەورای شەرمەزاری” تەنیا ڕەنگدانەوەی لەدەستدانی زمان نییە، بەڵکو هەوڵێکە بۆ بەدەستهێنانەوەی بهها و دەنگ. پرۆژەکە ههر بههێندهوه ناوهستێت بهڵكو هەوڵدەدات سنوورەکانی نێوان زمان و وێنە، دەقی نووسراو و نیگارکێشان بشکێنێت، بەم پڕۆسهیه لهخۆیدا دەبێتە گەڕان و بەدواداچونێک بۆ زیندوکردنهوە و گهشهی ههرچی زیاتری زمانی کوردی، هاوشان تێگەیشتنێکی قووڵتر لە شوناس و میراتی کولتووری ئهو میللهته.
پیشانگهی (ئەورای شەرمەزاری) پێكهاتهیهكه لە دوو بەش: بەشی یەکەم لە (٣ی نیسان تا ١٨ی ئایاری ٢٠٢٥) لە گالێری کۆمەڵەی هونەرمەندان نمایش دەکرێت و پێکهاتووە لە ٣٣ تابلۆی گەورە به پێوانهی(٢٧٠ x ١١٣ سم)كه به ڕەنگی ئاویی كێشراون، و نوێنەرایەتی پیتەکانی ئەلفوبێی کوردی دەکەن. بەشی دووەم لە هۆڵی ئەکادیمیای نیشتمانی هونەر لە ئۆسلۆ بەڕێوەدەچێت، کە چوار کورتە فیلمی تێدا نمایش دەکرێت. لە پەراوێزی هەردوو پیشانگهکەدا، هەشت پۆدکاست بڵاودەکرێتەوە، کە شوان لەگەڵ چەندین هونەرمەند و کەسانی پسپۆڕی نێودەوڵەتیدا سەبارەت بە زمان، مێژوو، سیاسەت و هونەر ئاخاوتن و دیالۆگ ئهكات. بۆ زانیاری زیاتر دەربارەی پۆدکاستەکان کلیک لەم لینکە بکە.
