Spurred by the acts of terror committed in Oslo on July 22nd, international curator Kóan Jeff Baysa has curated an exhibition based on the underpinnings that led to the recent bombing and shootings. The tragic incident pulled aside the curtain, bringing a number of inflammatory topic to lights, like the failure of multiculturalism–publicly espoused by leaders in Germany, France, and Britain, immigration, and the rise of Islam. Baysa has selected works addressing the above – including issues that predate 7/22 – not necessarily in a confrontational manner, but in ways that show alternate/unexpected perspectives on these subjects, by artists who are not Norwegian by birth, but who have resided in Norway and experienced its culture. Christian Bermudez, Milumbe Haimbe, Mamta B. Herland, Sabina Jacobsson, Peter Johansson, Paolo Manfredi, Jet Pascua, Shwan Dler Qaradaki, Sada Tanagara, Roghieh Asgari Torvund, and Victor Mutelekesha. Salte Kyss I & II deals with my journey as a refugee from Iraqi Kurdistan to Norway. Through the film I try to give a sense of how it was, as a child, to experience war in the war-torn Kurdistan. How it was to be an illegal refugee in foreign countries like Iran, Turkey and Greece and about my new life as a stateless asylum seeker and multicultural immigrant in Norway.
