SHWAN DLER QARADAKI
With a critical eye and in dialogue with his own work, Shwan Dler Qaradaki want to investigate the relationship between art and war-related questions in relation to individual experiences. He want to investigate how dramatic life will affect people’s self-image and self-understanding, and he want to combine own experiences with others’ voices to tell stories from our times. With his own and others’ experiences under totalitarian regimes and the loss of freedom that comes with, he want to make human dignity a major theme in his work.
Shwan Dler Qaradaki was born in 1977 in Slemani, which is the Iraqi region of Kurdistan. He studied at the Slemani Institute of Fine Arts and completed his arts education in Norway at the Oslo National Academy of Arts in 2009. His works have been featured at a number of solo and group exhibitions in Norway and abroad. In 2013 Shwan won the Oslo City Culture Award. In 2015 he was awarded the Newcomer of the Year prize from the Norwegian Arts Council and and four awards for his latest movie "To My Children".
